Wallsend Pool is a cute neighbourhood pool with everything a family day out needs, from a big lap pool to a shaded toddler area and a playground right next door.
It’s managed by BlueFit and open seasonally, usually reopening at the end of September to coincide with the school holidays, and running through to autumn. This year, it reopens for the season on 26 September, alongside Mayfield, Stockton and Beresfield pools.
The main pool is a large solar-heated 50-metre pool, with a dedicated free swim area on one side where families can gather and play without getting in the way of lap swimmers.
The learner’s pool is a family favourite. At just 0.4 metres deep, it’s ideal for little ones to splash around, and a large shade canopy covers most of it. If you get cold, the unshaded section is close by to warm back up.
For even younger kids, the shaded toddler’s pool gives little ones room to run around and splash safely.
Right next to the toddler area is a playground that’s popular with younger kids.
It was rebuilt a few years back and now has a small climbing structure, swings, two slides, balance stools and a rope bridge, plus a separate set of swings and a roundabout nearby.
There’s plenty of shade around the grounds, with a large central shade structure over picnic tables as well as established trees.
Pack a picnic, cook up snags on the free barbecues, or grab hot chips from the kiosk.
Entry charges to the centre do apply, and seasonal passes are available for the more frequent visitors.
