There’s lots of fun to enjoy at Mayfield Pool. It’s easy to spend a few hours here at this swim centre with two pools to suit different ages and swimming abilities. It’s big enough to keep kids busy but small enough not to feel crowded.
The Mayfield Swimming Centre was originally a gift from BHP Steelworks and serves as a valuable community venue within the larger Dangar Park.
It reopens for the season on 26 September 2026, alongside Wallsend, Stockton and Beresfield pools.
Enjoy splashing around in the 50-metre pool. If you feel like doing laps, there are dedicated lanes to swim. Otherwise, splash around in the large free play area. Bring pool noodles and pool toys to have some fun.
For those with younger kids, spend some time in the shaded learners pool. It’s large enough to hold lots of families but shallow enough for kids to feel safe.
There’s plenty of shaded seating area for parents to sit and watch kids. In fact, you’ll have a clear line of sight to watch your kids in the 50-metre pool.
If the kids get tired of being in the water, let them run around on the large grassy area.
A half-court is also on-site if you want to bring a basketball.
For younger kids, the playground has softfall and bark chip flooring under a small play structure with a climbing wall, a climbing net and a slide.
Swings and a small roundabout nearby are also under shade cloth.
Established trees and picnic tables provide plenty of shade around the grounds.
Bring a picnic and enjoy some lunch or cook up some snags on the barbecues at the pool. You can also order hot chips at the kiosk.
Entry charges to the centre do apply, and seasonal passes are available for the more frequent visitors.
