They’re also a great pick when you’ve got kids of different ages, since one can head straight for the playground while another shoots some hoops.

Beauford Avenue Reserve, Maryland

This small, neighbourhood playground has a half-court basketball area. There’s also plenty of grass, so pack a soccer ball as well as a basketball.

Corroba Oval, Stockton

Corroba Oval, home of the Stockton Sharks, also has a great basketball court located right next to the car park. There’s also refurbished toilets, including disabled toilets and a kid’s playground with a spider web swing, seesaw, bouncy, toddler slide and climbing/balancing equipment.

Islington Park, Islington

Islington Park

As well as the play equipment, there is also a half basketball court located adjacent to the playground. It’s location means that you can watch kids in the playground as well as the kids on the basketball court.

You have your choice of two playgrounds at Jesmond Park. Head to the back playground and you’ll spot the half-basketball court.

Head to Novocastrian Park at New Lambton. Adjacent to the playground is a half-basketball court. It’s a great spot for practising your basketball or netball shots. The netball ring is behind the basketball hoop facing the other way.

Wallsend Active Hub, Wallsend

Wallsend Active Hub

Bring a ball to Wallsend Active Hub, located next to Wallsend Pool in Federal Park, Wallsend. There’s plenty to do including a playspace with equipment for a variety of ages, a pump track for bikes, scooters and skateboards and a multi-sports courts allowing for basketball and futsal, rebound wall, climbing wall and fitness stations.

If you’re just looking for basketball courts, City of Newcastle has basketball courts near the corner of National Park and Parry Streets to activate the formerly unused corner of National Park. 


Playgrounds with Basketball Courts in Lake Macquarie

Karakai Park, Murrays Beach

Dual-named, Karakai Park and Murrays Beach Park, this park is located in the residential area, not near the water. It’s a bit of a drive to wind through the suburb of Murrays Beach but it’s worth a visit. The name Karakai means “to be active” in Awabakal. The park features a half-court basketball court, a double-sided hit wall and a playground appealing to kids of all ages.

Pasterfield Sports Complex, Cameron Park

Get your sport on at Pasterfield Sports Complex in Cameron Park. There’s a variety of courts just below the playground. Most are netball courts but there’s a full-size basketball court as well. This playground area is slightly raised so parents can watch one kid play in the playground and another in the court area.

The Rathmines Youth Hub, located at Stilling Street, Rathmines features a multi-sport court with half-court basketball feature. There’s also a skate park and pump track.

Taylor Park, Barnsley

There’s so much play equipment to choose from at colourful Taylor Park in Barnsley. Besides a flying fox, play towers, swings and more, there’s also a practice court with a basketball and netball hoop.

Located at High Street, Maitland, Harold Gregson Park forms part of the Maitland City Council Harold Gregson Park Youth Space which not only includes a full-size basketball court but a large kids playground, a skate park and amenities.

Huntlee District Park One, North Rothbury

The half basketball court at this park, nestled amongst the trees, is a peaceful spot to practice shooting some hoops. You can even bring your fur baby with you as there’s a fenced, off-leash dog area right next to the basketball court. When the kids have tired of basketball there’s plenty of equipment to keep them entertained in the large playground.

Norm Chapman Oval, Rutherford

The Norm Chapman Oval located at Rutherford consists of a half court, playground featuring a castle-themed cubby, climbing wall and enclosed slide, picnic tables and fitness equipment. The nearby sporting ovals provide plenty of space to run around.

Victor Warby Reserve, Gillieston Heights

Adjacent to the playground at Victor Warby Reserve in Gillieston Heights there’s a half basketball/netball court and handball wall. It’s a lovely spot to shoot some hoops, located near the pond in Wallis Creek Estate, but please note that there are no public toilets at this Playground.

Located next to the large playground Bower Reserve in Medowie, you’ll find a half-size court featuring a basketball hoop one end and netball hoop the other. It’s a beautiful setting for practising some shots.

Mallabula Skate Park, Mallabula, Port Stephens

Located right next to Tilligerry Aquatic Centre, on Lemon Tree Passage Road, Mallabula, is a half-court basketball/netball court. There’s also a large playground and a skate park, plus an oval and lots of grassed areas to kick a ball around.
