Watch the Christmas rooftop lights come on during Waratah Village’s Famous Christmas Lights Switch On. The lights switch-on at 8pm. Due to Covid restrictions on crowds and public events, Waratah Centre is not able to host an event as they have done in previous years. The lights will be switched on Friday 6th November and they encourage people to view the lights over the two months they will be on.

Explore the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest and most breathtaking display of over three million lights. If your family loves Christmas lights, then the Christmas Lights Spectacular is the place to be. It’s a stunning Christmas attraction in the Hunter Valley. In addition to the lights, there are plenty of other family-friendly activities for the family to enjoy including amusement rides, Santa photos and food stalls. Due to COVID-19, Hunter Valley Gardens is capped at 500 visitors at any one time. Due to the fluid nature of the current COVID-19 conditions, Christmas Lights Spectacular tickets will be offered in staged releases with 5th – 30th November tickets on sale from 15th October, December and January tickets will be available from mid-November.
Christmas Maze in Civic Park

Head to Civic Park for a Christmas Tree Maze starting on Thursday 3 December. Get lost in the maze which will be made of 120 fully sized fresh Christmas pine trees. By day, kids will have a great time finding their way through the maze and by night, onlookers can enjoy the sparkling solar-powered tree lights, helping give the city a little extra Christmas spirit. Civic Park’s Christmas Tree Maze runs from 7am to 7pm from Friday 4 December to Saturday 12 December. It’s free to enter. This event is one of the events for A Very Newy Christmas produced by Enigma and funded by City of Newcastle’s Special Business Rate Program.

If you’re around the west side of Lake Macquarie on Christmas Eve, keep an eye out for Floating Santa also known as Santa on the Lake. Each year on Christmas Eve for the past 40 years, Santa sails around the western side lake visiting different jetties and handing out lollies to kids. Well, in a usual year, Santa does this. However in 2020, with COVID-19, Santa, unfortunately, will not be stopping at the jetties and providing lollies. Santa’s route is yet to be determined on Christmas Eve (Thursday 24 December 2020) but it’s expected that he’ll leave Bolton Point at approximately 4:30pm.
