Here’s a list of local carols organised in date order. Even though some annual, larger events have been postponed in 2021, you’ll still be able to enjoy online streamed carols and smaller, local carols with your family and friends this year!

Christmas Carols – a Christmas Story for All Ages (Kotara)

Saturday 4 December | From 5pm | 101 Joslin Street, Kotara | Free | Details

A lovely evening with something to suit all ages. Early session starts at 5.30pm featuring The Shake, Rattle and Roll Choir, a choir of people living with Parkinson’s. This session will be very kid-friendly, with dress-ups, fun and favourite Christmas songs, and (vitally) ending before little-kid bedtime! The later session starts at 7pm, for singing by candlelight as the sun sets. Families with teens will love this special atmosphere. Hosted by the Anglican Parishes of Kotara South, Lambton and All Saints Anew. Free entry, refreshments available for purchase – all profits to The Samaritans Christmas Appeal.

Christmas in the City

Get into the spirit of the season thanks to City of Newcastle who are lighting up Wheeler Place with a giant Christmas tree plus entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights during December. There’s a range of family-friendly live entertainment including carol singers, a brass band and more to enjoy:

Carols Across the Hunter (ONLINE EVENT)

Rhema 99.7 presents Carols Across the Hunter, an online Christmas carols experience. You’re invited to join Rhema 99.7 FM for a unique online carols event. An online streaming event featuring Christmas Carol performances from churches across the Hunter! Get the family together and enjoy carols from your lounge room and celebrate the diversity and talent of our local churches. Lake Mac Carols (Speers Point)

Sunday 12 December, 2021 | 3pm – 9pm | Speers Point Park | Free| Details

Lake Macquarie City Council is proud to present a spectacular evening of entertainment, as we count down to Christmas at the Lake Mac Carols by Candlelight event at Speers Point Park. The night will feature yummy food trucks, kids’ activities and an array of specialised boutique Christmas market stalls to grab local gifts from. Entertainment from Lake Mac community groups will also be on offer at the Community stage at MAP mima from 3 pm – 5:30pm. The main stage entertainment kicks off at 5pm and be sure to look to the skies for a very special appearance by Santa at 7pm! Nick, Jess and Ducko from hit106.9FM will be the MCs for the event.

There will be free Wi-Fi available in the park to sing-a-long to the Carols with their online songbook. Lake Mac Carols is a COVID safe event. QR check in, proof of vaccination and designated family “pods” will be mapped out for family units to enjoy the entertainment and maintain social distancing. Sanitisation stations and roving Marshals will also be available. Lake Macquarie Cruises will be running a Belmont to Speers Point, Speers Point to Toronto ferry for Carols this year. Carols at the Bay

Carols at the Bay is a not for profit community carols event brought to you by the combined churches of Port Stephens. This year will include performances from local primary schools, performing arts students and community groups along with professional entertainment. Community performances from 5:30pm, Main act from 7:00pm, Santa around 8:00pm, Fireworks at 9:00pm. For more information refer to their Facebook event page.

Christmas Carols at Stockton Anglican Church

Stockton Anglican’s Traditional Christmas Carols are on Sunday night December 18, 6:30pm for BBQ & 7:30pm for carols in the Church. All welcome. Expect a pipe organ, traditional songs, kids stuff, candles and lots of fun.

Carols Under the Stars at New Vine Church – CANCELLED

Bring a picnic (if you wish), chairs or a rug and your best singing voices to Carols Under the Stars at New Vine Church, Maryland (cnr Maryland Dr & Minmi Rd, opposite Fletcher Village shops). From 5.30pm with singing starting at 7pm. There’ll be food and drinks available, a jumping castle and possibly a visit from a man in red… Everyone welcome!

Pop Up Carols in Cessnock City

Cessnock City will have a series of Pop Up Carols Performances from Friday 17 December at various locations around Cessnock including Bridges Hill Park, Maybury Peace Park (Weston), Cessnock City Council Administration Building and Cessnock Library. Featuring local musicians performing all your classic and contemporary Christmas favourites. Check their website for locations and times.

Carols on the Lawn (Islington) – CANCELLED

Saturday 18 December 2021 | Islington Baptist Church | 5.30-8pm | Free| Details

Bring a picnic rug or chairs and join Islington Baptist Church on their lawn for a free BBQ, music, puppets and fun. Please note: this is an alcohol-free event.

Carols with New Heights (Edgeworth)

Friday 24 December 2021 | New Heights Christian Church, Edgeworth | From 5:30pm | Free| Details

Join New Heights for a night filled with fun, carols food trucks and so much more! There will even be a visit from Santa! They have more details to come so be sure to check their Facebook page.

Carols by the Beach (Bar Beach) – POSTPONED UNTIL 2022

Carols by the Beach is a popular and family-friendly event. Join the Merewether and Newcastle community in gathering beachside at Empire Park for Carols by the Beach, an evening of vibrant summer festivities. There will be live carols to sing along to, fun activities for kids, a dazzling fireworks display and maybe even a visit from Santa Claus himself.

Christmas Under The Stars (Newcastle) – POSTPONED UNTIL 2022

Newcastle Permanent’s Christmas Under the Stars at King Edward Park is brought to you by the City of Newcastle and Newcastle Herald. The event includes Christmas carols and a special outdoor screening of a Christmas movie. There is a collection point onsite for The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal, so attendees can bring a toy or gift voucher for those in need at Christmas.

Lambton Park Carols – POSTPONED UNTIL 2022

The annual Lambton Park Carols is a family-friendly, community celebration of Christmas organised by Hunter Bible Church. The popular event includes food stalls and a grand fireworks finale.
