Avon Street Reserve Playground in Mayfield: So Many Swings to Choose From!

If your kids like swings, take them to Avon Street Reserve Playground in Mayfield. The playground was upgraded in April 2023 as a part of Newcastle City Council’s Playground Replacement Program. It features four different types of swings as well as slides, balancing and climbing equipment, musical play activities and more.

There’s a swing at Avon Street Reserve Playground to suit all ages. Babies and toddlers can swing in the baby/toddler swing or partner up with an older sibling on the double swing which incorporates a baby and regular swing facing each other. There’s also a popular group swing and a regular child swing.

Another element of this playground that kids will enjoy is the musical play equipment.

These include the underground pipes and talk tubes. Kids can interact with each other using their voice or the dongers attached to the pipes.

There’s plenty of climbing and balancing equipment for preschool/school-aged kids including a ladder, a large climbing net, gangways, a balance beam and colourful balancing balls.

Avon Street Reserve Playground is great for active kids. They’ll enjoy spinning themselves or each other on the merry-go-round, perfect with its softfall base.

The monkey bars will test their upper body strength. There are two slides to choose from at this playground and a bouncy to suit kids up to approximately age 8.

Kids can play noughts and crosses or use their imaginations with pretend play at the small play shop.

Avon Street Reserve Playground is fenced on three sides. The base of the playground is a mix of woodchip and softfall. There are two park benches to rest on/supervise and, at different times of the day, shade is provided by the larger, established trees lining the back fence and a couple of well-positioned smaller trees.

Note that there are no bubblers or bins at this playground so bring your own water and be prepared to take any rubbish with you when you leave. There are also no toilets, so ensure everyone has used the toilet before a visit.
