2021 Christmas Lights Trail & Map: Newcastle, Lake Macquarie & Hunter Valley

| |

#LightItUp If there was ever a year to go all out and decorate your house or front yard with Christmas decorations and lights, this is the year. We all need lots of joy and fun this holiday season after yet another year we would rather forget.

Newy with Kids has been encouraging people to decorate their homes so that we can create a trail of Christmas lights in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Valley and Port Stephens for Christmas 2021 #christmasjoy

The response has been fantastic and we now have a big list of local homes and streets that have been decorated for Christmas. Thanks to everyone who has decorated their homes as well as those who have spotted homes who have been submitting Christmas Lights via our submission form.

Thanks to those who have put so much time and effort into creating these beautiful displays for all of us to enjoy especially those fundraising for charities.

Newy with Kids Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt

Driving around and spotting Christmas lights is a holiday tradition for many local families and to make it extra fun, download our scavenger hunt. While you’re out enjoying the lights, you can make it a game to see how many items can you check off.

Tips For Seeing Christmas Lights

Choose one or two neighbourhoods to explore

For those with younger kids, choose a smaller area to explore on foot. On this list, we’ll be including streets that have lots of houses decorated on them so you can enjoy the lights all in one area. You can also drive around suburbs which have a lot of houses decorated with lights. In the past, this has included the suburbs of Cameron Park, Ashtonfield, Thornton and Fern Bay.

Dress in Christmas-themed clothes

Get into the Christmas spirit with Christmas-themed clothes. You might find that the light displays provide some great photo family ops, especially at dusk.

Pack food and drinks

Pack some food and drinks with you in case your family gets hungry. The No Money No Time website produced by the University of Newcastle has put together a Kids Christmas eBook with kid-friendly recipes and activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. We asked them for their suggestions for Christmas food families can enjoy in the car while they’re out spotting Christmas lights.

Play some Christmas tunes

As you’re driving around looking at the Christmas lights, listen to some Christmas tunes. Make a family playlist and fill it with your favourites. Need inspiration? We’ve included our favourite Christmas singles in the Newy with Kids Christmas Spotify Playlist.

Once you submit your house, we’ll add it to our Christmas Lights list (usually the same day).

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Please help us keep this list as updated as possible. If you know of any other Christmas lights displays which should be included, please email us or submit using the form above so it can be added. Where available, Facebook links are listed for displays. Details included were provided by the owner of the displays or by someone who visited and shared it with us.

Make sure that you don’t miss any of the fun and family-friendly Christmas events in Newcastle and the Hunter, visit the Newy with Kids Guide to Christmas.
