Head out to Tocal Field Days during the first weekend of May. This three-day agricultural event at Tocal Agricultural College has lots of fun things to do for the family, whether you’re from the city or the bush.
As well as showcasing the latest in farming techniques and technology from solar energy, it also has food and wine stalls, an animal nursery, history tours, line dancing lessons, sheep shearing, and old fashioned kids games.
Spend some time at the animal nursery. It’s a favourite with kids and parents alike. There you can cuddle a baby duckling, get your picture taken with a llama and watch the pigs race to the finish line in piglet races.
See the working dogs as well as all the action in the arena including bison, horse display and post ripping. Your family can watch the blacksmith at work, hear tales from Captain Thunderbolt, or bush poetry from the Minmi Magster. You can also enjoy fresh scones baked in a wood-fired oven.
How fast can you boil your billy? Parents or kids 16 years or older can enter the Billy Boiling Competition. Head to the area opposite Nash Park stage and register to enter. Heats are held 3 – 4 times a day. All contestants are given a block of timber, a box of matches and a billy of water – the rest is up to you. Heat prizes and a major prize for the best time over the three day event.
