If you’re around the west side of Lake Macquarie on Christmas Eve, keep an eye out for Floating Santa also known as Santa on the Lake. Each year on Christmas Eve for the past 30 years, Santa sails around the western side lake visiting different jetties and handing out lollies to kids. Well, in a usual year, Santa does this. However in 2020, with COVID-19, Santa, unfortunately, will not be stopping at the jetties and providing lollies.
The Rotary Club of Toronto Sunrise now coordinates this effort and usually puts together thousands of bags of lollies which are usually personally handed out by Santa.
You can still see Santa on the Lake though even if you have to bring your own lollies to give to your kids.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Santa won’t be disembarking from the boat but will spread Christmas wishes via Christmas carols and happy cheers from the boat. So bring the family along and wave to Santa as he approaches.
He will travel from Bolton Point to Wangi, along the western lake foreshore as slow as possible along the way, so that he can wish as many as possible a very happy Christmas. Everyone is welcome to bring their family to one of Santa’s vantage points or join the flotilla of boats to accompany Santa on his journey.
PLEASE NOTE; If you wish to gather at one of the main locations listed below you must, remain within your family group, maintain current social distancing rules according to NSW Government Covid 19 requirements and Lake Macquarie City Council (LMCC) recreational guidelines as shown on the LMCC web site, including being 1.5 metres apart, so that everyone can participate with safety.
Santa will be travelling slowly on the cruiser Seaflight and will pass as close as possible at the locations as per the following schedule:
His route starts at 4:30pm and ends at 7:15pm venturing near the following spots.
- Bolton Point – 4:30pm
- Toronto Foreshore – 5pm
- Kilaben Bay park – 6:15pm
- Rathmines Old Catalina launching ramp – 6:45pm
- Wangi Wangi Club foreshore – 7:15pm
