Orange Picking at Cedar Farm
Want a fun day out? Go fruit picking with your family. Late June is the start of the navel orange picking season. Wander through 15 acres of orchards at Cedar Farm which is home to 3000 orange trees, that are a mix of mostly navel oranges.
Date: Every weekend until closing in late August.

Mr Squiggle and Friends Exhibition
Newcastle Museum has a new exhibition and it is a nostalgic one. Mr Squiggle and Friends: The Creative World of Norman Hetherington has opened as the first stop on its national tour, and it is packed with puppets, props and plenty of reasons to bring the whole family along.

Young People’s Theatre Presents: The Sound of Music
One of the most beloved musicals of all time comes to Hamilton’s Young People’s Theatre this July and August, performed by a cast of local young performers alongside the Lindsay Street Players.

Winterheat Festival
Winterheat 2026 is a FREE, all-ages celebration of community, creativity, and keeping cozy. Newcastle’s long-running free winter festival lights up Pacific Park with fire sculptures, live music, roving performers, street food, kids’ face painting and a silent disco hill. Families, Anti-Bullying and School Refusal Workshop
Bullying. School refusal. Friendship dramas. If any of that sounds familiar, this one’s for you. Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre is running a free Anti-Bullying and Family Resilience workshop on Friday 14 August, with sessions at Warners Bay, Redhead, Green Hills, Morisset, Waratah and Maryland.
This session is designed for parents, carers and kids under 12. You’ll walk away with practical strategies for handling bullying, supporting your child through friendship troubles, and getting them back into a positive routine if school refusal has crept in.

Resilience for Life Workshop for Kids 12+
Exam stress, peer pressure, social media pressure, and the general chaos of being a teenager. Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre is running a free Resilience for Life workshop for young people aged 12 and up across their six centres at Warners Bay, Redhead, Green Hills, Morisset, Waratah and Maryland.
It’s an interactive session covering how to manage academic pressure, bounce back from setbacks, handle peer pressure and build genuine self-belief. These are the kind of practical life skills that stick well beyond the school years.

Hunter Drama Presents: CLUE
On a dark and stormy night, six unique guests, plus a butler and a maid, assemble for a dinner party at the home of Mr. Boddy. When their host turns up dead, it is clear that no one is safe! Based on the popular board game and adapted from the cult classic film.

Hunter Valley Highland Games
Pipe bands, Highland dancing, caber tossing, Jacobite reenactments and a kids’ activity area set against the vineyards of Saltire Estate in Lovedale, about 50 minutes from Newcastle. There are food stalls and market vendors on site too, so you can make a full day of it.

Hunter Science Festival
Newcastle’s biggest science celebration takes over the Newcastle Museum for a free day of hands-on activities. Over thirty of your favourite stalls from last year are back, plus there’s even more science fun and hands-on experiences for kids and adults. Robot races, solar car building, the HMRI Poo Palace inflatable, science shows and talks from local scientists.

Impact Festival 2026
Four days of contemporary dance take over the region, with performances, dance film screenings, artist talks and workshops for both audiences and industry folk. A great one for older kids and teens with an interest in dance or performance, especially the workshops with guest artists.

37th Newcastle Jazz Festival

Edgeworth Trains
Ride on a miniature train at Lake Macquarie Live Steam Locomotive Society’s monthly public ride day. There’s a variety of miniature trains such as steam and diesel and different rail routes (both elevated and ground-level) so you can easily spend a couple of hours watching and riding trains.
