A fully-fenced playground in the Newcastle LGA?! Yes, they do exist. Johnson Park Playground is a must-visit if you’ve got a little runner, or if you’re trying to juggle a baby and an adventurous toddler at the same time.

Find the playground on the corner of Wyong Road and Orlando Road, Lambton (opposite corner to the older playground at Johnson Park). When we visited, there were plenty of on-street parking spaces on both roads.

This sweet ‘Life Cycle of a Butterfly’ themed playground is best suited to toddlers and early primary-aged kids.

The main climbing structure features three slides, including a side-by-side double slide that’s perfect for little friends to race down! It also has stairs, climbing nets, a ‘bridge’, and a fireman pole.

Other features of the playground include a spinner, a seesaw and swings. Choose from a baby/toddler swing or a regular swing.

Little ones will also love the interactive activity boards. There’s a beautiful ‘Life Cycle of a Butterfly’ sensory board with plenty of colorful details for little hands to explore.

Or, you can spend some one-on-one time teaching your little one how to play ‘Connect 4’ on the 4-in-a-Row board.

The base of the playground is a mixture of woodchip and softfall, and a wide concrete path connects the two gated entrances.

The real winner, of course, is that this playground is fully fenced! While the secure fence keeps little ones away from the road, the rest of Johnson Park is a huge open space – perfect for ball games and burning energy. Just keep a close watch once you’re outside the gates, as the corner streets can get quite busy.
