Sitting right on its southern edge, the Merewether Ocean Baths are a must-visit for both locals and visitors looking for a classic coastal experience.
It features two large ocean baths; one deep with diving blocks (it’s actually one of the largest ocean baths in the Southern Hemisphere!) and and a shallow, sandy-bottomed pool perfect for toddlers and young children to splash, dig, and play safely.
The Merewether Ocean baths cater for everyone, whether you are a competitive swimmer or are there simply for leisure.

As with most beaches, there is not a lot of shade so be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, sun-safe clothing, and a beach umbrella or shade tent to avoid getting burnt.
Don’t forget your buckets and spades, a beach ball or boogie board to make your visit even more fun!
There are a variety of seating options including bench seats and steps surrounding both pools, and a few sheltered tables if you don’t wish to sit on the sand.
There are also heaps of great eating options within a short walking distance, all of which have beautiful views of the beach, baths and surrounds.
The Merewether Ocean Baths are open all year round, subject to maintenance and cleaning, and they are patrolled daily throughout September to April. Always check the cleaning schedule to avoid disappointment.
The complex is fully accessible, with concrete paths and ramps leading into both pools. You’ll also find toilets, hot showers and change rooms, making it easy to rinse off before heading home.
There is a variety of free parking options in car-parks and on the surrounding roads but be mindful that it can be difficult to get a park during the popular seasons.
