Step Back in Time at Maitland Heritage Fest Family Fun Day 2026

Looking for a fun winter outing with the kids? Maitland’s historic Church Street precinct comes alive on Sunday 14 June 2026 for the Maitland Heritage Fest Free Family Fun Day. A celebration of local history, hands-on fun and classic community charm, there’s plenty to keep the whole family busy from the moment you arrive.

Maitland Heritage Fest Family Fun Day runs from 10am to 3pm across Maitland’s historic Church Street precinct and Olive Street.

What’s On for Families

The day spans several venues across the precinct, so it’s worth downloading the full program and map before you head out.

Kids’ Activities

  • Treasure Hunt with 8 sites to visit
  • Sanjex’s Vintage Wonders old-fashioned games (free for all)
  • Free face painting in the Maitland Public School Paddock on Olive Street
  • Kids’ dress-up gazebo
  • Botanical drawing activities with artist Gillian Hewitt ( a returning favourite)
  • Frank’s Fantastic Puppets puppet display in the CWA Hall, plus learn how to make your own puppet
  • Silhouette portraits by Geoff Pearce. Free, hand-cut silhouette portraits at the CWA Hall (sponsored by Burton Automotive). Numbers are limited, so book your time slot in advance.

Carriage Rides (ticketed)

Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage rides with Cinderella Arrivals, a black fairytale carriage pulled by Friesian horses, doing laps around the Church Street precinct. Each ride is approximately 10 minutes.

  • Heritage stone mason, blacksmith with a steam forge, woodworkers and steam engines

  • New in 2026: Dungog Pedalfest bicycle history display in St Mary’s Church Grounds, including a Dandy horse and the history of cycling in Maitland
  • Maitland SES showcase
  • Grossmann House self-guided tours, 10:30am–3pm ($5 per person; National Trust members free)
  • Brough House open with textile exhibition, museum displays and refreshments (gold coin donation)

There’ll also be live entertainment from 10am until 1pm and a good spread of food stalls across the sites.
