If you feel like a fun and scenic harbour walk, do a stroll from Wickham Marina to Honeysuckle crossing over Cottage Creek.

This waterfront promenade opened by Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC) in August 2022 is the final piece in the uninterrupted 11 km walkway stretch going from Wickham all the way through to Merewether.

It’s a shared path used by walkers and cyclists alike, and incredibly child-friendly thanks to the double lanes and path markings, ensuring everyone has enough space to share the path safely.

If you’re starting at Wickham, take in the views of boats and yachts docked at Wickham Harbour. Dotted with some great fish and chips shops, cafes and restaurants, it makes for a great starting point (or end point depending which way you’re going!)

If you’re lucky you might even spot one of the fishing trawlers offloading their daily catch to the Fishermans Co-op.
You and your kids don’t need to be boating enthusiasts to enjoy the boats, from the rowers at Throsby to the luxurious yachts in the marina, to our tugboats and the ships entering our port, it’s fun to watch the vessels quite literally grow in size as you move along the water’s edge up toward the eventual ocean’s mouth at Nobbys Headland.

As you move up the strip from Wickham, you will find beautiful grass spaces lining much of this pathway, all part of the City’s plan to introduce more green, soft spaces into what was much of a concrete jungle.

The efforts have paid off and the area feels soft and lush, great for kids to run on or to throw a rug down for a spot of lunch with the family while watching boats and rowers pass by.

The Cottage Creek bridge is hard to miss, being bright blue and rather quirky. This great little bridge officially connects Wickham and Honeysuckle.

The new apartments popping up along the walkways are also rather eye-catching and make for an interesting view along the pathway as you make your way up toward Honeysuckle Park, a maritime-themed park.

The previously known “Robot Park” has now been upgraded and Honeysuckle Park now boasts a fantastic Ship play structure along with nautical-themed play equipment, very fitting given its location!

The path has plenty of benches for rest stops, several water bubblers and public bathrooms as you enter Honeysuckle.

There are even shaded barbeques and dining spaces set up just before Honeysuckle Park should you want to spend a day out there taking advantage of this excellent public area.

This walk (or bike and scooter ride of course) really is great at any time of the day, and I suspect it’s going to be a hit during the summer when families like to take advantage of the outside spaces.

Grab the kids, grab the dogs, or jump on your bikes and make your way over to the Waterfront Promenade!
