There’s a playground in Swansea, Lake Macquarie that’s worth a visit. Located at Chapman Oval in Swansea, this playground was updated in April 2023 with new play equipment and has great views across Swansea Channel.
The main attraction is an integrated play structure with stairs, two slides, a firefighter’s pole, and a little play shop underneath.
Be careful of the big slide!
A mum we spoke to at the playground mentioned she had taken her daughter on her lap down the slide and mentioned it was steep and fast.
Here’s a view of the slide looking down. Note that there are open areas on this play structure so supervise little ones.
There is also a smaller slide with stairs for kids to easily climb up.
As well as the play structure, there’s additional fun play equipment including swings. At Chapman Oval playground, you’ll find a regular swing, a baby swing and a group nest swing.
There’s also a balancing beam and balancing disc platforms as well as a rocker and a spinning pole.
Challenge your kids to a game of X and O’s or let them practice their hand-eye coordination moving different colours around.
There are benches dotted around the playground as well as a picnic table next to the playground.
In terms of age suitability, we’re thinking the Chapman Oval Playground is best suited for kids under 8. Be sure to supervise younger kids especially for the large slide.
The flooring of the playground is a combination of softfall and bark chips.
Bring bikes and scooters and head for a ride or walk before or after a playground visit. Across the street from the playground, you travel along the shared pathway on Channel Street with great views of the Swansea Channel.
You can also drive down Channel Street to the carpark and go for a walk along Pirrita Island boardwalk.
