Our Bushland Festival
Celebrate the Cessnock Region’s unique natural environment this September with Our Bushland Festival – a month-long program of free and accessible community events being held as part of Biodiversity Month. The festival features a diverse range of activities, including tree planting, ecology walks, library storytime sessions, hands-on workshops, pub trivia nights, and evening spotlighting events.

Lake Mac Run
This well known running festival has been in action since 1984 and is one of the longest-running events in New South Wales. It is a fantastic scenic road course along our beautiful lake, mostly flat and perfect for PB times. Register for the Pure Performance 21.1km Half Marathon, the Coal Services 10.5km Fun Run or the 4km Family Scamper.

Broke Village Fair & Vintage Car Display
Experience the magic of family fun and vintage cars. With a fantastic line-up of activities and entertainment for the whole family including car show, woodchopping, best dressed dog competition, whip cracking, mine tours, pig races, medieval combat display, jumping castle, kids entertainment, roaming magic show, food, wine and market stalls, live music and more.

Living Smart Festival
One of Australia’s largest sustainability festivals, the day features free workshops, market stalls, live music and hands-on activities. Dr Karl will be debunking myths about climate change and sharing his wisdom on all things sustainable living. From local food trucks to inspiring eco ideas, it’s a fun, family-friendly event all about living smarter and greener every day.

Ted Prior’s Grug Exhibition
The ‘Grug Retrospective’ exhibition celebrates the enduring legacy of Ted Prior’s beloved children’s character, Grug, who has captivated audiences since his creation in 1979. The exhibition features original illustrations, manuscripts, and a selection of puppets used in Windmill’s productions, offering insight into the creative processes behind both the books and the plays.

Singleton Show
Head to the Singleton Show in September to enjoy pavilion displays of cooking, handcraft, lego, fine art, photography, woodwork, horticulture and poultry. The Singleton Show is held over three consecutive days and includes live music and entertainment for the whole family on Friday and Saturday with a horse show on Sunday. It’s also home of the Australian Wife Carrying Titles!

New Annual Festival

Tuff Nutterz
Tuff Nutterz – Australia’s BIGGEST inflatable obstacle course – is coming to town! At a massive 300m long, it’s packed with slides, climbing walls, tunnels and plenty of bouncy fun. Best bit? Parents can join in too, so it’s fun for the whole family.

Civic Theatre – Behind the Curtain Backstage Tours

Hunter Wetlands Centre Spring Festival
Hunter Wetlands Centre are flinging open their doors for another fabulous family-friendly and FREE Open Day showing off their beautiful wetlands grounds and the conservation work they do! There’ll be plenty of things to see and do including market stalls, live music, jumping castle, face painting, “Roaming Reptiles”, activities for kids, tours and talks.

Edgeworth Trains
Ride on a miniature train. Lake Macquarie Live Steam Locomotive Society hosts monthly public ride days. There’s a variety of miniature trains such as steam and diesel and different rail routes (both elevated and ground-level) so you can easily spend a couple of hours watching and riding trains. Their public ride days run on the last Sunday of each month excluding December.

Time: Trains running from 12:30pm till 3:30pm (weather permitting). The park is open from around 9:30am.

Story Dogs at Betty Loves Books
Story Dogs is a wonderful volunteer organisation that helps to build confidence in literacy skills by providing a fun, safe, non-judgemental environment. The dogs are chosen for their patient temperaments to sit with a child who might be having difficulties learning and listen to them read.
