Breakfast; Café; Gorgeous Garden; Award winning restaurant chef
Looking for a family-friendly spot in Stockton where everyone’s welcome, from toddlers to grandparents to the family dog? The Gladstone Hotel has had a glow up, and The Gladdy is now the go-to venue for an adventure across the harbour.
Think coastal vibes, quality coffee, Chef Simona’s gorgeous seasonal menu classics, and a kids corner and garden where kids can actually play while you enjoy your coffee or a proper meal.
Newy with Kids recently visited The Gladdy to meet up with the Team behind The Gladdy and can confirm it’s a great spot for families, mothers groups or just a catch up with friends after a school drop off.
Make It a Day Trip
The Gladdy is the perfect addition to a Stockton adventure. Catch the ferry across and let the kids play at Stockton Active Hub‘s playground and skate park at Griffith Park. Then it’s an easy 5-minute walk up Mitchell Street to The Gladdy. Or if you’re exploring Stockton on bikes and scooters, having a swim at Stockton Pool, strolling along the Shipwreck Walk or hitting the beach, stop in for a visit afterwards.
Coffee, Café & Kitchen
As you walk in, you’ll spot the Café on your left. Open seven days a week, it’s perfect for a pre- or post-playground visit.
You’ll find standout coffee roasted locally by Newy legends Lords Supply, plus fresh pastries, smoothies, toasties, brekky burritos and acai bowls and Stockton’s only soft-serve. To the right of the café, there’s a cozy lounge area perfect for catching up with friends.
Be sure to check out the artwork on the walls around The Gladdy. It’s dotted with gems from local artists.
Kitchen open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Want something more substantial? The kitchen is open seven days for lunch and dinner. Breaky is proving a massive hit from Friday to Sunday. Check out The Gladdy menus to see their mouth-watering options.
Famous for breakfast and Restaurant Chef Simona’s revamped pub classics and seasonal menu using locally sourced produce, The Gladdy has earned 60+ five-star Google reviews in just a few months. The lunch and dinner menu includes a To Share section if you’re dining with friends, or choose your own from the Main Meals.
Designed for Families
The Gladdy gets it. Parents and grandparents can actually relax here. High chairs are ready, babycinos are on standby, and there’s an impressive kid-friendly menu (for under 12s) to keep little ones happy. (Check website for kitchen opening hours)
If you have kids who wake up early, bring them to The Gladdy. Breakfast starts at 7:30am from Friday to Sunday. There’s plenty of yummy options for little ones including mini pikelets, bacon and egg slider, cheese toastie or scrambled eggs on toast.
If it’s a later start, make a booking for lunch or dinner. Kids can choose from a gozleme, pasta rossa or a vegetarian nacho bowls…or dino nuggets.
While you sip a piccolo or local beer, kids can explore the alfresco play corner. The dedicated kids nook is stocked with paper, pencils, blocks, toys and a doll’s house — everything you need to keep them entertained while you finish your meal in peace.
The Garden
The oldest Garden in Stockton has gotten a revamp and there’s plenty of room for kids to run and play. This is surely set to become one of Newcastle’s best, and certainly largest, hub gardens. Plenty of seating, or enjoy the lawn, to enjoy the weather.
Lots of lawn and two cubby houses, there’s plenty of space for kids to play and room to park the prams. It’s the kind of setup that makes saying “yes” to catching up with friends easy.
It’s a Hub, not a Pub
Community-minded and proudly gaming-free, The Gladdy is about good food, good coffee and good company – a true Hub, not pub.
There’s always something on the horizon: kid-friendly events, creative workshops and wallet-friendly mid-week specials that make The Gladdy an easy choice for Newy families.
The Gladdy also believes a good local gives back. All profits from select products, including their locally brewed house beers are donated directly to local community groups.
And yes, your dog is welcome too. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the front bar, streetside dining, and the garden area too.
Win a Camper!
The Gladdy is giving you the chance to WIN a sick camper! To enter, join the Flock, The Gladdy’s loyalty program to earn points, discounts, and other cool stuff. Keep an eye out for the van cruising Stockton and Newy this summer.
