Summer Art Fest arrives at Maitland Regional Art Gallery from Sunday 4 January with a jam-packed month of creative fun for all ages.
From pom pom sculptures to pet portraits, clay workshops to cake making competitions, there’s a fun and creative experience for kids of all ages to enjoy!
MRAG’s friendly artist educators will be hosting drop-in workshops, or book into a workshop online, or fly in at any time to enjoy a self-directed activity while you explore the current exhibitions.
Plus, MRAG is opening every day of the week during January to help you make the most of what’s on offer.
There is something for everyone throughout the month-long extravaganza with activities for kids, family groups, and teens. While some of the workshops are drop in, the following workshops require bookings.
Pom Pom Sculptures
In this hands-on workshop, kids will design and create their very own pom pom pet sculptures—cute, quirky, and totally unique. Perfect for young makers of all skill levels, this workshop encourages creativity, fine motor skills, and lots of giggles.
Pet Portraits
Calling all young animal lovers and artists! Inspired by the wonderful paintings in The Show by artist Lucy Culliton, kids will learn how to capture the personality of their favourite furry or feathered friends through drawing and painting.
Mud to Masterpiece: Clay Workshops
In this fun, exploratory clay workshop, young artists will learn how to shape, sculpt, and bring their imaginative ideas to life.
Acrylic Painting Workshops
Dive into a world of colour and creativity this summer! In this vibrant acrylic painting workshop, young artists will explore how geometric and organic shapes can work together to create bold, eye-catching masterpieces
As well as a month-long festival of engaging art activities for all ages, there’s also five exhibitions to experience including Mud to Masterpiece, a collection of contemporary ceramics and, Summer Holiday featuring the work of Maitland local Xander Holliday.
Plus, you can come along to Free Art Sunday, MRAG’s weekly program connecting children and families with art through hands-on activities facilitated by their friendly MRAG Art Tutors.
Bookings are required for some events and workshops. Head to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery website for more information and to book your spots.
