Press Play is back at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima with a weekend of family-friendly fun.
Press Play runs from Friday 2 May to Sunday 4 May. Be immersed in Sandy Sanderson’s exhibition Communia Omnia – That which belongs to all, that explores the hidden forces that shape our world, dance the night away at a kids disco, or join in Whale Chorus Kids’ workshops.

Exhibition in the Cube: Sandy Sanderson: Communia Omnia – That which belongs to all taps into the unseen forces that govern both the physical and metaphysical realms. This multi-sensory experience reveals the hidden electrical dialogues shaping life, exploring electroreception—an ancient ability to sense electric fields—through immersive film and sound.
Kids Disco

Kids take over MAP mima at this free and fun disco that the whole family can enjoy! From 5pm, the MAP mima cube will turn into a dance floor where kids rule! This family-friendly celebration is the perfect way to start a weekend of art activities and games, packed with music, art, and fun for all ages.

Whale Chorus Kids’ Workshop: Dreaming Alice

Children work together to solve mysteries, uncover hidden secrets, and journey through a fantastical Wonderland at MAP mima. Step into a world of wonder and whimsy with Dreaming Alice, an enchanting workshop inspired by the timeless tale of Alice in Wonderland. Presented by Whale Chorus, this immersive experience invites children to embark on a magical journey of creativity, curiosity, and discovery.
Sculpting Avatars
2pm – 4pm | $15 + booking fee | Bookings essential
Learn the tangible artistry of sculpting plasticine figures and programming your avatar using virtual reality. In this workshop we’ll be creating our own virtual digital avatars, by sculpting them out of plasticine. Feel free to get adventurous with your design, and we’ll 3D scan them, rig them with a skeleton, and let you pilot them in VR in front of a virtual mirror.
For ages 16+.

Collage and Photogrammetry Workshop for Kids
11am – 1pm | $15 + booking fee | Bookings required
In this workshop we’ll be creating our own virtual digital avatars using paper collage templates. The instructor will show you how to transform your two-dimensional design into a 3D avatar using virtual reality!
For ages 8-14.
