If you’re looking for a playground that you haven’t been before to visit with your kids, head to Murrays Beach Park in Lake Macquarie.
Dual-named, Karakai Park or Murrays Beach Park, this park is located in the residential area, not near the water. It’s a bit of a drive to wind through the suburb of Murrays Beach but it’s worth a visit.
The name Karakai means “to be active” in Awabakal and there’s no doubt your family will be active at this park.
Opened last year, Murrays Beach Park has plenty to appeal to kids of different ages as it has a playground, double-sided hit wall and a half-court basketball court.

This peaceful playground nestled in bushland has a natural theme to it and this is reflected in the wooden play equipment, sandstone seating and landscaping.

The playground features a swing set with baby and normal swing as well as a group swing.

Nearby there’s there’s two lots of wooden balancing equipment ideal for preschoolers.

There’s also a teepee structure made out of wood topped with a owl carving that kids can sit under. Throw down a picnic blanket and it’s ideal as a story spot.

Further along the playground is sandstone steps with a tube slide.

Next to that is a rocky area with a short climbing rope for kids to get back up the hill.

This area with sandstone and dirt will be popular with kids who can climb up and down and jump along the sandstone bricks.

Near here is the adorable cubby fort. It’s a separate structure which provides kids with a great venue for imaginative play.

In addition to the playground, there’s a large double-sided hit wall with space for lots of kids and adults to hit balls and practice their tennis or pickeball skills.

There’s also a half-court basketball court, ideal for a pickup basketball game.

There’s also centrally located amenities at this park as well as a bubbler near the playground.

There’s covered picnic tables so bring a picnic and stay for a while.

What’s great about this playground is that there is ample seating for parents and caregivers and a clear line of sight across the playground no matter where you are.
After a play at this playground, you can head down to the water at Murrays Beach and walk along the shore. There is a small lakeside playground at Murrays Beach as well but it’s showing it’s age and has some broken equipment. It’s in need of a refurbishment.
