Head out for a spot of fishing with your kids. Let’s Fish Lake Mac, Lake Macquarie’s own fishing competition is back in 2025. This is a fun kid-friendly event so get together with friends and family and register for this fishing competition.
The popular catch-and-release contest will see anglers of all ages wet a line in Lake Macquarie across the weekend of 22 and 23 November in search of four target fish species: tailor, flathead, bream and whiting.
It’s not just bragging rights up for grabs at this year’s Let’s Fish Lake Mac competition – more than $18,000 worth of fishing tackle prize packs prizes are also on offer.
Plus, there’s also four tagged fish each worth $25,000 if hauled in and released. One healthy tagged specimen from each of the competition’s four target species will be released into the lake shortly before the event begins, with participants challenged to catch one and claim its $25,000 bounty.
This year, in addition to the $100k tagged fish, there’s an additional four tagged fish that can win you some great prizes, including a Quintrex 370 Explorer worth $6,900.
Registered participants receive a unique number and ‘brag mat’ for measuring their catch, with fish photographed on the mat before they’re released.
For each species (bream, flathead, tailor and whiting), there are junior and senior prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and the fish closest to the ‘Mystery Length’. Plus, all entries go in the draw to win in the Prize Draw. You don’t even have to catch a fish to win!
You choose when on that weekend you, your mates or the family can get together to fish.
Let’s Fish Lake Mac is held right across beautiful Lake Macquarie. You can fish from the shore or from your boat. Check the Where Can I Fish page for more information.
In previous years, winning fish included a 44.6cm bream, a 48.9cm tailor, a 42.4cm whiting and a whopping 90cm flathead.
