Finding screen-free entertainment for kids is a universal parenting goal. The daily struggle to balance the benefits of technology with the need for real-world play and connection is real! That’s why we were so excited to discover LEAP Museum at Morisset, a place where everyone from 0-100 (yes, even the grown-ups!) can enjoy hours of screen-free fun.

Designed and opened in 2024 by local parents Ryan and Alice, LEAP Museum offers six inspiring rooms of STEM-focused fun for kids of all ages and their families. It’s a place where grown-ups and children can play and learn together, unplugged and engaged!

The bespoke wooden games, many designed and crafted by Ryan himself, are incredibly unique and captivating. Think pinball, marble run, and LEGO-inspired creations – but on a whole new level! These games aren’t just fun; they encourage critical thinking, spatial reasoning, and fine motor skills.

The build-your-own marble run, a favourite with my younger child, allows kids to experiment with design and engineering principles. I loved watching his little mind at work, creating and recreating different paths.

My older child loved the foam construction blocks, building forts and bases using her creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills.

We all loved the four-player “Quad Ball” game. It encourages friendly competition and strategic thinking as players try to score by sending balls to their opponents’ side. We returned to this game a number of times throughout our visit and the kids loved collaborating and playing with other visiting children. This game was a hit with all ages, from 7-year-olds to adults.

The “magic garden” room, lovingly created by Alice, is an important reminder of the power of play for all ages. While this enchanting, fairy-garden-themed space is a dream for toddlers and pre-schoolers, I was surprised to see my older kids using their imaginations to play together. With its play shop, café, baby dolls, and more, Alice has created a truly magical place where kids can play and connect.

When it was time to expend some energy, we all had a go at shooting some hoops and then settled in for a game of floor footy!

The thing I really loved most about LEAP Museum was the focus on collaborative play. Unlike traditional play centres, LEAP Museum encourages grown-ups to play and learn alongside the kids. The games and activities are designed for multiple players, encouraging teamwork, bonding, and shared fun between siblings, friends, or parents/carers and their children.

There are exciting things to discover all throughout LEAP Museum, from riddles and challenges to dress-ups, a Lego wall and much more. The walls are lined with bright and colourful artworks by Alice’s mum, making it a real family affair.

Ryan informed us that most visitors spend 1-2 hours at LEAP Museum. However, with six rooms of fun, you can easily spend half a day or more here. It took our family an hour just to get past the first room!

When it’s time to stop for lunch, there’s an eating area with tables and chairs located in the front room of LEAP Museum. Although there’s no food or drink available for purchase onsite, LEAP Museum is located within a shopping complex so there are several nearby cafes and eateries as well as Domino’s Pizza, Woolworths, sushi and a chicken shop. Admission is for the day, so feel free to step out for lunch and return. You can also bring your own food and drinks to be consumed in the eating area.

Two and a half hours of fun later, we finally managed to tear ourselves away from LEAP. The kids’ enthusiastic ‘This place is fun!’ and ‘Can we come back?’ said it all. LEAP Museum is a must-visit: a wonderful opportunity for families to unplug, connect, create lasting memories, and truly celebrate the joy of play.
