It’s that magical time of year when Christmas lights begin popping up across our neighbourhoods, and families head out after dark to discover the brightest, twinkliest displays.
From sparkling rooflines to front-yard showstoppers, exploring local Christmas lights has become a much-loved tradition for Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Valley and Port Stephens families.

Minmi Road Light Show
For a truly epic light show, head to 295 Minmi Road Fletcher. The show will run every night in December, weather permitting. There are over 17,000 lights synced to music including some moving objects as well. Tune your radio station to 92.10FM to listen to the music. The show is 20 minutes long and runs on a continuous loop. Tag your pictures and videos with #minmilightshow.

It’s that wonderful time of the year again and the display is fun for the young and young at heart. Many new lights added for this years display. Each Friday – Sunday nights from 7.00pm-9.30pm there will also be twin snow machines operating and fantastic Christmas music playing (both weather permitting). There’s also a photo bench set up to capture magical moments.
Just a reminder, this is a private household and entry to the display is by invitation of the owners only. And parents, can we ask for your support too please. The owners understand little ones can get excited (so do many of the ‘big kids’ as well) but for everyone’s safety, please: no running, climbing or touching of the display is permitted.

Double garage Xmas village display – trains, trams, villages, snow, Victorian era, ski slopes, ice skating, carnival plus beautiful toy displays for all the children to enjoy. Clarence Town Christmas Lights – Niki’s Gifts
Every year, Clarence Town Christmas Lights presents a massive Christmas lights display with a fundraising recipient. This year, there are walkthrough display, new and interactive displays, life-size horse and sleigh, snow machine and inflatables. As well as being an annual fundraiser, this year’s display is dedicated to their late daughter Tenieka (Niki). Tenieka’s legacy lives on as they continue the display for her and in her memory, and continue raising funds under the name of ‘Niki’s Gift’.

Driving around and spotting Christmas lights is a holiday tradition for many local families and to make it extra fun, download our scavenger hunt. While you’re out enjoying the lights, you can make it a game to see how many items can you check off.
Tips For Seeing Christmas Lights
Choose one or two neighbourhoods to explore
For those with younger kids, choose a smaller area to explore on foot. On this list, we’ll be including streets that have lots of houses decorated on them so you can enjoy the lights all in one area. You can also drive around suburbs which have a lot of houses decorated with lights. In the past, this has included the suburbs of Cameron Park, Edgeworth, Ashtonfield, Thornton and Fern Bay.
Dress in Christmas-themed clothes
Get into the Christmas spirit with Christmas-themed clothes. You might find that the light displays provide some great photo family ops, especially at dusk.
Pack food and drinks
Pack some food and drinks with you in case your family gets hungry. Some Christmas-themed choccies or baked goods are always a treat to eat.
Play some Christmas tunes
