Join the Upcycle Newcastle team at parks and playgrounds around Newcastle to learn how to upcycle in May and June.
In free 2-hour pop-up workshops at various locations, participants can learn to make a T-shirt shopping bag or a dog pull toy from old T-shirts.

The workshops are suitable for kids in primary school (ages 5+) and you can drop in at any time during the workshop.
The purpose of these workshops is to divert at least half a tonne of textile waste from landfill. Unfortunately, old t-shirts create lots of waste. By upcycling the t-shirts into a useful item, it helps to reduce the amount of waste which gets thrown away.
Upcycling Newcastle is a local organisation that is passionate about reducing waste to landfill through creative re-use and repair. They provide equipment and materials, inspiration and education to support people interested in upcycling.

The project is fully funded by the Australian Government’s Communities Environment Program.
Upcycle Newcastle will also have denim and fabric pieced floor cushions to give away! The catch – you will need to fill it with textile waste (available at the workshops) before you can take it away! (limited number of cushions at each workshop).
With this and another 8 local workshops in May and June, Upcycle Newcastle aims to save at least half a tonne of textile waste from landfill!
