Newcastle Art Gallery Reopens With Two New Exhibitions

| |

Newcastle Art Gallery is delighted to welcome visitors back to their space. There are two brand new exhibitions on display:

REPEATER: from the collection presents works of art that imitate life amidst a pandemic, as we take a more minimalist approach to life, or find ourselves repeating the same motions day after day. But instead of monotonous or mundane, repetition can be comforting. This exhibition encourages us to focus on the beauty of the familiar.

Drawn exclusively from the Gallery’s collection, the exhibition features new acquisitions by Daniel Boyd, Robert Jacks, Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Reko Rennie, contemplative works by locally born or based artists Peter Atkins, Nicola Hensel, Bree Rooney and Lezlie Tilley, as well as hidden gems and iconic favourites from the collection by Marion Borgelt, Kerrie Lester, Peter Tully and many more.

REPEATER: from the collection

HOMEWARD BOUND: the art and life of Tom Gleghorn Tom Gleghorn OAM is considered to be one of Australia’s finest abstract expressionists. This exhibition features drawings and paintings from across the artist’s extraordinary career of more than 70 years. The works of art from our collection, as well as private and public collections, will allow the viewer to journey through Tom’s world, including his memories in paint of Newcastle and the lake of his youth.

For families, the works of art will be as inspiring as ever to explore. Visit the Gallery’s smART space to learn more about the design element that artists use in their works of art.

Although Art Cart is currently cancelled, Art Cart at Home will continue as online activities via the Gallery’s social media@newcastleartgalleryaustralia. School Holiday workshops for July will be delivered as a virtual online program (details to come).

Newcastle Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday with two daily sessions (10am – 12pm & 2pm – 4pm).
