New Year celebrations will be different this year in Newcastle due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The traditional fireworks event has been cancelled but in its place, there are now seven separate events organised by City of Newcastle on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day where the community can reconnect, reflect, and refresh heading into 2021.
New Year’s Eve – December 31, 2020
Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a picnic in the park with friends and family on New Year’s Eve.
Food Market at Lambton Park
Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a picnic in the park with friends and family. The Food Market at Lambton Park runs from 3pm to 8pm and includes roving entertainment and children’s activities.
Food Market at Dixon Beach, Merewether

New Year’s Day – January 1, 2021
Ring in the new year with family-friendly fun at local pools and Blackbutt Reserve.
Beresfield Pool
Join in the fun from 10am to 4pm which includes inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment. Standard pool admission fees apply. $2.80 for adults & child. Kids under 3 free.
Mayfield Pool
Enjoy a pool day at Mayfield Pool. The event runs from 10am to 4pm and includes inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment. Standard pool admission fees apply. $5 for adults, $4 child / concession. Kids under 3 free.
Stockton Pool

Food Market at Richley Reserve, Blackbutt Reserve
Head to beautiful Blackbutt for a food market at Richley Reserve. The Food Market runs from 10am to 4pm and includes roving entertainment, children’s activities and a ‘sensory zone’ for people with disabilities and their families. While you’re at Richley Reserve, enjoy the adventure playground or venture for a nature walk.
