Get your fix of dinosaurs during the April school holidays! Something prehistoric has been DUG UP at the Hunter Wetland Centre in Newcastle.
In an Australian first, a to-scale dig site, complete with a full dinosaur skeleton has been recreated on the grounds at Shortland. Kids and adults alike will be stunned at the size of the dinosaur, and wonder about its story.
Each day there will be a small talk and unveiling of the dig site, so be sure to come early and secure your spot. You can’t touch the bones but you can get very near it.
In addition, local palaeontology expert Michael Dawson is presenting an exhibition featuring specially chosen dinosaur casts from his collection.
Visitors can take an easy walk around the Wetlands and find Dino Dioramas with intrigue and information about these historical inhabitants.
You can also take a guided tour of the wetlands, meet the resident reptiles during live demonstrations, and enjoy a special dinosaur-themed meal at the wetlands café.
Delighting in dinosaur details is children’s author Deborah Kelly, who is hosting two Dinosaur Discos based on her famous book. Pre-school and primary-school aged children are invited to dress up in costume and join in a reading of Dinosaur Disco as Deborah sets the mirror ball spinning! There will be prizes for best costumes and dancers. Tickets for the Dino Discos must be pre-purchased and can be bought online now.
