Join Curious Legends at Illuminate at Hunter Street Mall

Light up the dark with Curious Legends on Saturday 16 July in Hunter Street Mall.

Curious Legends is working with the Newcastle City Centre Business Improvement Association and a host of great businesses to breathe life back into the Hunter Street Mall. With a wide range of family activities planned, it promises to be a great day of fun!

There is plenty of activities on offer including:

  • Family-friendly activities & workshops
  • Multimedia sculpture & light displays 
  • Giant illuminated puppets
  • Roving entertainment
  • Live music
  • Storytelling
  • Hot food

There are lots of activities planned for Illuminate including these fun family-friendly activities

2pm to 4pm – ‘Lyrique Lane Party’
Newcastle East End Village Plaza, Lyrique Lane (entry via Wolfe Street)

Join the crew from Curious Legends with roving artists (a bush clown or two), a shadow puppet making workshop, and storyteller extraordinaire Karen Eastwood for a party for families in Lyrique Lane!  Karen Eastwood (Twisted Sista) will be spinning her storytelling magic, as artists from Curious Legends help you create your own coloured shadow puppets for night-time magic!

4pm to 6pm – ‘Disco Madness @ Lyrique Lane
Newcastle East End Village Plaza, Lyrique Lane (entry via Wolfe Street)
And then, from 4pm, boogie your life away in a disco dance party for ALL AGES! DJ Big Rex will be spinning the beats – get your dancing shoes on granny! Kids – adults are welcome when in the presence of responsible children. Show these old people how to boogie! Giant puppets from Curious Legends will be joining the fun!

6pm to 7pm – ‘Spirits of Newcastle’
Ka-fey Cafe, Hunter Street Mall
Stories from across Newcastle, projected larger than life! Join digital artist and storyteller Conor Fox, as we present the Spirits of Newcastle video. Hot, steaming pizza will be available from Ka-fey Cafe, followed by live music to take us into the evening!
