Newcastle is set to come alive in April with an action-packed schedule of events and festivals supported by City of Newcastle.
There’s something for everyone, from a range of sporting events to keep avid sports fans entertained, while a host of food festivals are sure to entice and provide a range of diverse culinary options.
For the sports enthusiasts, action-packed April begins with the world’s highest-ranked surfers taking to the waves at Merewether Beach to kick off the Australian leg of the World Surf League’s Championship Tour, across an 11 day period from 1 April.
Sailfest, Woman’s University Rugby 7s and Newcastle’s annual running festival, NewRun, is on from the middle of April with more sporting spectacles to enjoy from the sidelines or as part of the action.
Sailfest includes the prestigious TP52 Gold Cup, iconic ‘Cock of the Harbour’ race and historic Newcastle Harbour Regatta, offshore yacht racing and inshore activities including Olympic class dinghy and keelboat racing, as well as TrySailing events for junior sailors and families.
Participate in NewRun with your kids. Fort5 is a 5km run for adults and kids aged 8 – 17. It’s a 5km fast and flat course that showcases the best of Newcastle Foreshore from Nobbys to Honeysuckle. For younger kids, there’s 2K4Kids, a special 2km run for kids aged 4 to 17 along Newcastle Foreshore. This race is designed to give little people some big fun. All children will receive a race number, medal, and downloadable certificate.
Late in April, the next generation of sports stars will put their skills to the test in the second half of the month at the Hunter Academy of Sport Your Local Club Academy Games.
Newcastle Food Month will be cooking up a storm from 1 April, with local chefs, eateries and producers dishing up more than 30 feature events across the city. From masterclasses with Newcastle’s favourite chefs to collab dinners between restaurants and wineries, there are plenty of culinary delights to choose from.
Three festivals and a world-renowned dining experience, Le Diner en Blanc, highlight the month-long menu of culinary celebrations.
Rock up to the Night Noodle Markets on April 9 & 10 at Tug Berth Lane and take your time tasting amazing must have bites from all over the globe.
